Lintel Calculations - London & Essex

We provide lintel calculations for new doors, enlarged window openings, garage conversions, knock-throughs, and other residential wall alterations. If you are creating an opening in masonry and need Building Control approval, this page is the direct service page for the design work.

Typical lintel projects

  • Widening or adding a new window opening
  • Creating a new external or internal doorway
  • Garage conversion openings and wall changes
  • Replacing undersized or failing lintels
  • Smaller openings that do not require a full steel beam

What you receive

  • Lintel sizing based on span, loading, and wall type
  • Bearing length and support detail recommendations
  • Calculation pack suitable for Building Control submission
  • Advice on when a steel beam is needed instead of a lintel
  • Clear guidance for your builder before work starts

Lintels vs steel beams

Some openings only need a lintel. Others need a larger steel beam calculation. We assess the opening, loading, and wall arrangement and specify the correct solution rather than defaulting to the heavier option.

This page exists to capture the smaller opening and lintel query set without changing your current steel beam page, which is already tuned more towards wall removal and RSJ searches.
